Society is going through many crises that are seriously
affecting the quality of life of people around the world. Even
months after the elections, there are still many tensions in the area of
politics and government, here
in the US, in many of our countries of origin, and in the international sphere.
We see on TV horrible scenes of chemical weapons attacks in Syria, provocations by the North Korean government, and tensions with Russia. In the social sphere, very delicate and conflicting issues are being discussed that keep the country divided: firearms control, immigration, religious tolerance, access to health care, economics, and threats of war, among others.
And as if this was not enough, there are also everyday problems, from which it seems no one can escape. Crises at home, marriages that wobble (and many divorces), problems in work, finances, and / or illnesses not expected.

When
you talk to people, and they share with your their anxieties and worries, in most
cases, it seems like it's all these negative things that are going on, that's
what defines our lives.
--- The Resurrection of Jesus is the culminating point in the history that defines the Christian faith. And as such, it is the event that, if we say we are disciples of Jesus Christ, should define who we are, how we see the world, and how we face the struggles of this life. The story of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, if we make it OUR STORY: it changes us for EVER.
Jesus Christ gave Himself to save us and thus change our history. So that death and evil do not have the last word in our life, nor can they define us. When Jesus died - also the authority of sin died upon us. And on that glorious morning when He was resurrected, a new hope was born for you and for me, a new story THAT GIVES US ABUNDANT LIFE.

THEN DO NOT ALLOW THE STORY OF YOUR PAST, YOUR PROBLEMS, your circumstances, or your sin, be what defines you. Do not be so worried about what people say about you, or about the box where society wants to put you. May the history that defines your life ALWAYS be the story of Jesus, RISEN and VICTORIOUS. Jesus, who through His Resurrection showed us that LOVE is stronger than hatred. That LIFE conquers death. That GOOD, defeat evil, and that evil will NEVER have the last word in our lives.

What story defines your life? What determines how you understand your purpose in the world and your final destiny? What does the way in which you face adversities and help you put into perspective the suffering that often surrounds us?
I do not know what your answer to these important questions are, but my answer is firm, final and non-negotiable. My answer is: "The story that defines and gives purpose to my life is, JESUS, the SOLID and UNMOVABLE rock upon which I have decided to build my life."
My answer is Jesus Christ, for in Him, even in the most difficult moments I find hope, for I know that Jesus walks with me even through the dark valley of the problems of this life. My answer is Jesus Christ, because I know that he forgives my sins and when I am wrong he gives me new opportunities to start again, because as the Bible declares, and I have known in my own flesh, his mercies are new every day. My answer is Jesus Christ, because I have learned from Him that in this life I do not have to FEAR (as the angel said to Mary in the empty tomb), for neither sin nor condemnation nor problems or disease or even death will have the last word in my life.
It is not my past, not my problems, it is not the crisis or the illness, what defines me - IS CHRIST ... Christ who knows everything there is to know about me - my past, my present, and even my future (My strengths and my weaknesses). Society does not define me, WHAT DEFINES ME IS THE STORY OF JESUS IN ME - directing my steps through the Holy Spirit. Jesus in me, the guarantee of a better day - the promise of a full life that begins in the here and now and EXTENDS TO ETERNITY. --- what story defines you? That morning, more than 2,500 years ago, when the angels announced to Mary that Jesus had risen - CHANGE THE STORY OF THE WORLD. On this day, proclaim Jesus Christ - YOUR STORY: Your present, peace with your past, and the certainty and firm hope for a better tomorrow. And your story will change too
On this day of Easter and every day, may Jesus - BE WHO DEFINES OUR STORY.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, on this day when we celebrate your
Resurrection, we thank you for having entered our history. Thank you for
breaking into the chaos of our world to bring us hope for a new life in you.
Today, we proclaim that YOUR STORY IS OUR STORY - that it is You who defines who we are, who we belong to, and where we are going. Forgive us for the many times that we allow the problems and passions of this world to take your place, and help us to always walk the path that leads to a full and abundant life in You.
Because you live Jesus, we have life and hope. In your sweet name we pray Jesus, and we are grateful, Amen.
